A rubber body, razor-sharp wit and intelligence and feet on spring.... Put them all together in a box, shake it and what you get is a guy called Javed Jaffery. Though, of course, he may not agree with you completely. "There's a lot more to me than meets the eye," he says. This multi-faceted guy's talents know no bounds — be it dancing, singing, VJ-ing, writing or, of course, acting.
And needless to say, he has done justice to all the roles he has essayed. The mood to chat is followed by an animated expression complete with the squint in the eyes. Ask him about the puns that have made him so famous and he grins, "Yeh to apna-'pun' hai." The guy who calls himself an "entertainer first" says it's his "job to do a good job. If I don't do it well, I have no right to stick around." The fact that he has been around for almost two decades now is reflective of the way he has done his job. But of course, as he insists, "the journey has been full of ups and downs," — right from the time he did his first film Meri Jung to the just-released Jajantaram Mamantaram (J2M2). Javed may have come a long way but still gets the "heebbie-jeebbies in the stomach before the D-day." Says he, "I don't expect my films to do well, I just hope that they do. I have given my best to each of my roles. And now, J2M2 is especially close to my heart, because I love kids and this is a film primarily for them." After being involved with the hit dance-based competition show Boogie Woogie for quite sometime, Javed is all geared up to produce, host and present yet another show called Grooves which will "showcase talent from the world over." Ask him if he has any regrets and Javed turns philosophical, "I feel that someone up there can look at things more clearly. So, I just surrender to his ways — for I know that he looks at the bigger picture." That is why perhaps Javed is "a content man — and happy with the way things are. Despite a lot of controversies I have survived and I know that the best is yet to come. Inshallah!"
